Dr. Walter Homeyer is considered one of the best camellia breeders of modern times.

Dr. Walter Homeyer of Macon, Georgia was an anesthesiologist who registered many fine camellias but is best known for ‘Frank Houser’ which is a cross of the reticulata ‘Buddha’ and japonica ‘Steve Blount.’ Homeyer was unimpressed with the seedling but registered it because his neighbor, Frank Houser, admired it. He was named an American Camellia Society Fellow on February 1, 1992. Dr. Walter Homeyer is considered one of the best camellia breeders of modern times.
