Kanapaha botanical Gardens in Gainesville, FL is operated by the North Florida Botanical Society.The name of the garden comes from the nearly 250 acre Lake Kanapaha."Kanapaha" originating from two Timucua words for "palmetto leaves" and " house". The gardens were established in 1978.
The gardens are located in a 68 acre non-profit facility compriised of 24 major collections, visually accessible from a 1.5 mile paved walkway. It includes the State's largest public display of bamboo and the largest Herb Garden in the Southeast. The Camellias are primarily located beside the "Summer House" in a Camellia/Azalea Garden and in the Spring Garden which is located in the Northeast part of the facility. A water garden is also a major attraction.
